There's 2 versions of the 1.2 8v engine, a single-point-injection one (similar to the SPI 1.1) and a multi-point injection. The SPI unit is fitted to the "Punto 60" models and outputs ~59bhp, the MPI is in the "Punto 75" and produces about 75bhp. It's probably possible, in theory, to fit the MPI system to a 60 (and more than likely to a 55) but I'm currently converting an M reg 1.2 Punto from CVT auto to Manual using an N reg 1.1 Punto. Its all been rather plain sailing, but the only stumbling block i've come across is the flywheel. The bolt pattern to fix the flywheel to the engine from the 1.1 engine doesn't quite match up when I try to bolt it onto the 1.2 engine.

Nov 25, 2009. #9. If you do want stupid-fast, get a mk1 GT (not the HGT, the lack of tuning options and extra weight limit you to just silly-fast). Get over to PuntoSportsClub and start researching SEB4 and beyond performance increases. 200 BHP and a bit of weight reduction will see you well into stupid-fast territory.

Hi all, I have just bought a 2000 Punto Sporting 1.2 16v with ABS and it turns out it has had the 1.4 16v engine fitted from a Stilo at a guess and also started life as a speedgear!. The car starts and drives fine but has no speedo working and is showing P0500 VSS sensor/circuit. I have already tried a known good VSS sensor in the gearbox.
